July 2010

Well, since neither of us have posted much this month, I thought I would try to catch everyone up by posting a bunch of pictures from July.
Finn loves playing with his puppies and kittens!
In 16 years, he'll have his license!
We went to Pokagon with the Yerglers. Deacon is ready for the picnic.
So is Finn! (No, that's not his Pepsi!)
Mommy and Finn ready for fireworks.
We watched the girls for Mark & Angie one night. Here are the 4 cousins ready for bed.
We went swimming at Marissa's. Finn enjoyed relaxing in the pool.
We also went swimming at Mom & Dad's. Deacon loves playing in the sand!
We went to the 4-H fair several times. Deacon loves the tractors!
We also ran into Finn's good friend Kyler. They were so happy to see each other!

Vehicle update

For over 2 years, we survived as a one car family (unless you count the moped). Last month, we finally bought another vehicle!

It was great having 2 vehicles. I would take the Volvo to work and Jane would have the van at home. If she had plans during the day, we didn't have to wake the boys up in the morning so they could take me to work, I could drive myself. Now, the observant reader will notice that I am talking in the past tense. "It was great...."
Why am I referring to having 2 vehicles as a thing of the past you might ask. Well, yesterday on my lunch break, I was heading home attempting to go straight through a green light at an intersection, while at the same time a lady coming towards me attempted to turn left. She didn't see me at all...in fact, I think she was still accelerating when she hit me. I walked away unharmed. Daisy on the hand, wasn't so lucky....

Well, we had 2 vehicles for just over a month. It was fun while it lasted!

Puppies Ready for Their New Homes

We have a litter of purebred Reinhounds (Border Collie mix mother/Lab looking father) that are ready for their new homes. All of these pups are registered with the CKC (Craigville Kennel Club). There were 11 in the litter, but Runt has already been adopted and unfortunately, I don't have a picture of him. He weighed 4# at 7 weeks old (6/26/10). Here are the other puppies in the litter. (I've named them all, but if you adopt 1 (or more) feel free to change their name!)

Black & Tan Male: Tiller, 7# 5 oz. ***RESERVED***

Yellow Male: Mack, 8#.

Black Male: Stealth, 8# 10 oz. I call him Stealth because I can never find him. He's really shy.

Yellow Male: Hulk, 9# 7 oz. This boy is huge!

Black Female: Beauty, 7# 12 oz. Original name, I know.

Red Female: Dingo, 8# 7 oz.

Yellow Female: Runtette, 5# 13 oz. With her brother gone, she is now the baby of the litter.

Yellow Female: Breeze, 8# 14 oz. This girl is fast. She runs like the wind.

Red Female: Rosa, 9#.

Yellow Female: Amarilla, 8# 6oz.
I took them all to the vet on Saturday where they got their puppy shots and wormer (they also got weighed and their nails trimmed). If you would take 1 puppy to Smith's Vet in Berne for this treatment, it would cost approximately $55. So I will probably try to sell the puppies for $50. But I will give you the friends/family discount of $30. This will cover the cost of the shots since I received a group discount. If you have any questions, let me know. If you are thinking about getting one, but want to check w/ your spouse first, I've got a better idea. Why don't you just surprise them and bring a puppy home? I'm sure they will be thrilled!!!

Brickhouse

Last Thursday night, I went out to eat with some guys from our Bible study. We went to the Brickhouse in Monroe to try to conquer the Bellringer. The Bellringer is a 5 patty cheeseburger. These aren't your typical Dollar Menu patties, though. Each patty is huge! We estimated that each patty was around 1/3 pound. If that is right, then each Bellringer is the equivalent of 7 quarter-pounders! It might look big in the pictures below, but until one is set in front of you, I don't think you can fully comprehend how huge it really is.

Only Andy was able to eat it all. He got a T-shirt (the only size they had was XXXL), his picture taken, and got to ring the bell. I only ate 3 of the 5 patties. But I now have another item on my list of things to do before I die: "Conquer the Bellringer!"

Zoo Day

Monday's w/ Michael

Last Saturday, we went to the zoo with the Reinhard family. Here are some pics from that day.

Deacon the wombat.

Deacon loves our goats at home, but I don't let him in to play with them. They are way too big and would certainly knock him over. But the goats at the zoo were just his size!

Grandpa and Finn

Deacon the joey.

Daddy and Finn on the carousel.

Family photo under the waterfall.

Deacon and Finn relaxing.

Camping with Uncle Ben.

Hanging out with Uncle Joel.

The whole crew on TV.

Make it a great Monday!

The Caducity List

Monday's w/ Michael
I don't want to embrangle anyone. I realize that many of Jane's readers suffer from muliebrity, so I will try to handle this with mansuetude.
The English language is constantly changing. New words are being created and older words are being used less and less. Lexicographers are the people who track these changes. They read through new books, articles, etc and determine which new words are taking hold and which old words are dying out. Then approximately every 10 years, they update dictionaries with the changes.
Here are a few words on the chopping block.
Caducity - transitory; the state of being impermanent or perishable
Embrangle - to confuse; make more complicated
Mansuetude - gentleness of manner
Muliebrity - the condition of being a woman
Agrestic - rural; rustic
Hither - to this place
Olid - foul smelling
Snollygoster - a shrewd, unprincipled person, especially a politician
Skedaddle - to leave a place suddenly
Nigh - nearly; almost
Oppugnant - combative; opposing; antagonistic
Fubsy - chubby or squat
Hootenanny - an informal gathering featuring folk singing and often dancing
Make it a great week!
